Sam is the founder of Purple Gecko: Dance and Martial Arts Academy that offers classes covering a range of all ages and abilities.
Sam graduated from Edge Hill University in 2011 with a BA (hons) in Dance. Since then she has worked widely within education, community and health and with a variety of ages and abilities. She is also one of our very own FFA Licensees!
1) Why is it important for you to include exercise in your busy schedule?
It’s important for me to include exercise in to my busy schedule because it helps me to decompress from my day at work. It’s my stress relief and it makes me feel good!
2)What does your exercise routine involve?
On a weekly basis I weight train 3 x a week 2 of which are leg days as I love to train legs, a Thai boxing session, a karate session and a dance session which are all between 60-90 mins.
I also try and squeeze in a home stretch and flex session or a kettlebell workout.
3)Do you think that exercise has played a role in your success?
I think dedication to my sporting hobby’s and exercise has definitely helped my success as I made my passion for sport and exercise in to my career.
4) When and where do you like to work out (morning/night – home/gym/outdoors)
I prefer to workout mid morning or evening. My brain and body don’t seem to work so well before 9am. I enjoy home workouts but also enjoy going to a gym facility to use specialist equipment.
5) Has exercise/fitness always been a part of your life?
Exercise has always been apart of my life. Both my parents have always been active and I spent a lot of my child hood walking up mountains in Wales or the Lake District, water skiing, snowboarding and lots of other sporting activity’s throughout the week.
6) Who is your role model?
I don’t have just one exercise role model. But I would probably say My dad, if it wasn’t for my dads love of fitness, exercise and outdoor sport I would never have gotten into it myself.
