Why is it important for you to include exercise in your busy schedule?
Regular exercise helps to keep me sane. It’s a time when I can be focused on myself and do something for myself. At the end of the day it makes me a better person, mum, and partner. I can work through any emotions I need to and the feeling of physical work is somehow cathartic for the soul.
2. What does your exercise routine involve?
I love working out with weights and I’m trying to educate other ladies so they don’t think they will get bulky by lifting weights. I like variety as boredom with workouts can lead to me getting lazy and sloppy. I have loads of weights and resistance bands and other bits that I have built up over the years that I use at home.
3. Do you think that exercise has played a role in your success?
Absolutely! Exercise has taught me so many skills, it’s how I’ve learned not to give up, that I can do more than I ever thought, that progress can be slow but consistency will bring results.
4. When and where do you like to work out (morning/night – home/gym/outdoors)
I’m definitely a morning person, I like to be up before everyone else in the house in order to have some time to reflect before I get started. That usually means that my alarm is set for around 4:45am and I’m done and in the shower before 6am. I workout at home in our garage or I go out running.
5. Has exercise/fitness always been a part of your life?
Since I was about 21 year old yes. But it’s only really in the last couple of years that I’ve seen it as more than just a way to try and lose weight. Not it’s more of a lifestyle for me and I actually find it harder on rest days than on days where my alarm is set for super early.
6. Who is your role model?
Actually my fella – he is an amputee but has still competed in Britain’s and Worlds strongest disabled man and been out to Ohio to compete in the Arnolds, if he can do it then so can I (though in very different ways).
7. What is your favourite fitness quote?
I have a couple: Go hard or go home, try before you modify, I really regretted that awesome workout – said no one ever!!
