Ella Rauen-Prestes, was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
She worked for major Telecom companies for 20 years, living as an expat in America, Italy and has been in the UK for a few years now. She has been a passionate baker and cook for her whole life, and as a good Brazilian, quite involved with fitness and health. She brought to the UK her fit, healthy treats.
1) Why is it important for you to include exercise in your busy schedule?
Exercise is how I get read of stress, how I empty my mind and focus on nothing else, how I forget work for a couple of hours a day.
2) What does your exercise routine involve?
Lifting weights 4x/week (2 leg days and 2 upper body days), followed by 20 min HIIT cardio. And I also play tennis 2x/week, I`m terrible at it but I have so much fun!
3) Do you think that exercise has played a role in your success?
Absolutely! I have worked for 20 years in the corporate world, and due to my involvement with healthy eating and working out I left my job in 2017 and opened a Low Sugar High Protein bakery called Fitbakes. We have now sold over 100k cakes, we’re listed in national retailers, and in 18 months of a company that started from my kitchen table we won the Best of Health Award 2018, form the Healthy Food Guide Mag, I couldn`t believe it.
4) When and where do you like to work out (morning/night – home/gym/outdoors)
First thing in the morning, at the gym. I’m not an outdoor person, I know, it’s terrible, but I grew up in Brazil, in Rio, so I’m used to warm weather… any day below 15 degrees and I run back inside, such a wimp!
5) Has exercise/fitness always been a part of your life?
Yes. I do put weight on quite easily, so started working out from an early age. I did ballet, jazz, flamenco dance, aerobics, step (this is how old I am…), and started lifting weights when I was 40.
6) Who is your role model?
So many… Madonna is an absolute idol of strength inside and out. Tory Burch on the entrepreneur field. Misty Copeland, most beautiful body ever and changed the ballet world forever. My mother, the strongest woman I ever met.
7) What is your favourite fitness quote?
“Don’t stop when it hurts, stop when you’re done.” And this goes for everything in life, not only fitness. I’m going to sound like an old lady now, but I just think young people give up on anything way to easily nowadays, so I try to show the three teenagers at home that if things get difficult, you don`t give up, you power through.
Now can I say a really silly fitness quote I heard the other day and made me laugh out loud by myself? “Workout because zombies will eat the slow ones first” 😊
