Erica Hoese (pronounced like hazy) is the creator of the Fit Mom Army. She is based in Minnesota and is on a mission to help 10,000 moms start their journey to fitness, fierceness and fulfillment… and create a life that’s Fit for Purpose.
1) Why is it important for you to include exercise in your busy schedule?
Because it’s a way for me to stay healthy and keep up with my 3 children and also allows me to pour back into myself.
The more I prioritize my own health and fitness, the better I am for my family and others.
2) What does your exercise routine involve?
I am a lifting mom, just like a normal mom, except much cooler, ha! Seriously though I love weight lifting and strength training. I work out 5-6 days a week and my routine consists of 45 minute strength training and 15-20 minutes of HIIT cardio. I usually do 1-2 active rest days or light cardio if I feel like it.
3) Do you think that exercise has played a role in your success?
The stronger I get physically, the stronger I get mentally. I think most people have a natural negative tendency, I struggle with that the most– I am my own worst critic and physically being active helps with that, because when you’re pushing yourself in the gym, you can also push yourself and get through anything that life throws at you too, a fit body is an added bonus 🙂
4) When and where do you like to work out (morning/night – home/gym/outdoors)
When I first started I had to go in the morning, as it became a habit, I can do anytime if needed. I would say my most preferred time is 9 am and I like going to the gym because sometimes I become too distracted trying to get a workout in at my house.
5) Has exercise/fitness always been a part of your life?
Yes, I grew up around the weight room because my dad was a wrestling coach and is still an avid lifter today. It didn’t become important to me though until my mid-twenties.
6) Who is your role model?
I’d have to say my parents, they are both very active and I can attribute my lifestyle to them.
7) What is your favourite fitness quote?
Oh my gosh, I have so many… two that stand out right now are “Eat like you love yourself. Move like you love yourself. Speak like you love yourself. Act like you love yourself.” “It’s not about being better than anyone else, it’s about being better than you were yesterday.”
